NeuroTracker Exercise Answer Input Options

When performing any NeuroTracker training there are 3 options for inputting answers at the end of each trial. All 3 of these can options can be used within any NeuroTracker session. Before covering these options, note that during the answer phase of the NeuroTracker exercise numbers 1-8 are displayed on the spheres. These numbers are randomly assigned to the spheres and their only function is to identify tracked targets.

The numbers are not part of the training task and do not need to be remembered. However they can be useful for verbally sharing with answers other people, for example a coached user may speak their answers and their trainer inputs the targets for them.

1. Keyboard

Simply type the corresponding numbers for the tracked targets to input answers during the answer phase. There is no need to press enter as the answers will be automatically accepted within a few second after the numbers for all of the targets have been typed.

However, after all target numbers are entered, pressing the enter/return key will immediately submit the answers. This can be used to slightly reduce the time it takes to complete a session.

2. Mouse or Touchscreen

Simply click or touch the tracked targets to select answers. Again answers will be accepted automatically after a few second, however when using mouse the answers will be accepted immediately if the right mouse button is clicked after all targets are selected (but this is not an option for touchscreen use).

Mouse and touchscreen can also be used to override the automatic cube rotation, which can be used to quickly reveal any targets hidden by other spheres. To do this simply touch-hold or hold the left mouse button down on any part of the screen and drag in any direction.

3. Voice Recognition

Answers can be inputted by simply speaking the numbers into the device's microphone. This function is not activated by default, but can easily be activated by end users at anytime by clicking the end user name on the dashboard and switching the Voice Recognition toggle on.

When this toggle is turned on for the first time on any specific computer device, there will be a brief moment while the voice recognition is downloaded into the NeuroTrackerX application on that device. This a one-off event per device.

Once activated voice inputs can be used for any training session. Voice recognition can be switched on or off at any time, including within the NeuroTracker exercise, by clicking or touching the microphone symbol on the top-right of the screen.

Some of the Dual-Tasks in NeuroTrackerX, such as +Stroop and +Math, require voice recognition to be enabled in order to use them. In these cases additional answers need to be inputted during the trial movement phase, which is not practical for keyboard, mouse or touchscreen use.

If training in a noisy environment voice recognition may not be an ideal option, however this depends on the specific microphone being used.

Note: if a mistake has been made inputting a target answer on any session trial, this can be corrected using the same method for all 3 of the answer input options. Simply select a previously input answer in the same way to deselect, then select a new answer. If all targets have already been inputted, then this needs to be done in the few seconds before NeuroTrackerX automatically accepts the answers.
